Tuskegee Alumnae Chapter

Tuskegee Alumnae Chapter is the Oldest Chapter in the Southern Region. On December 5, 1922, Zeta Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was established in the Library of the Oaks, home of Booker T. Washington and Margaret Murray Washington.

Charter members were:
Pauline Young - Gamma, University of Pennsylvania
Helen Lucas Banks - Delta, University of Iowa
Mamie Digg Robertson - Delta, University of Iowa
Jessie Craig - Nu, University of Michigan
Artoria Williams Dryer - Alpha, Howard University
Margaret Murray Washington - Honorary Member, Fisk University
Mamie Green Alexander - Alpha, Howard University

In 1925, the chapter name was changed to Zeta Sigma Chapter by convention assembled in Des Moines, Iowa. At National Convention in 1947 in San Antonio, Texas, Zeta Sigma won an award as the most outstanding chapter in the sorority.

The National Convention adopted the chapter's project "Ride the Winged Horse" as its National Library Project and at the same convention in 1958, the chapter name became Tuskegee Alumnae.

Tuskegee Alumnae Chapter has given to date 99 years of outstanding service to the betterment of Tuskegee, as well as the Macon and Bullock County communities.
